Our History

Team History

The leadership team boasts a distinguished track record in specifications, with roots extending back to 2006.

  1. Specification Foundations

    2006

The cornerstone of our specification journey was laid in 2006 when Will took the helm at Davis Langdon Specification Services in Sydney, igniting a legacy of innovation and growth.

Will was in the ‘tapering off’ phase of Olympic competition, after representing Australia on the global scale for throwing pointy sticks.

With a twinkle of camaraderie and a “dash” of good looks, Nick joined the ranks, soon taking the approach to Western Australia, expanding our reach and serving as the spearhead of the Perth office’s Specification Services.

Ask Nick for his recommendations on Margaret River wines, if you have a spare 5 hours.

Meanwhile, Asanka stepped in to fill the gap in Sydney, not only enhancing the team’s technical acumen but also setting us on a shared path toward simplifying the intricacies of specification production.

If spec writing was rocket science, relax… Asanka also builds jet engines in his spare time.

  2. Expansion And Acquisition

    2010

Our commitment to excellence caught the eye of industry leaders, and in 2010, Davis Langdon was embraced by the larger AECOM corporation.

Whilst we became part of a vast public entity, our core values and dedication to empowering design professionals remained unaltered.

  3. A New Chapter With SCLSpec

    2013

SCLSpec emerged from a period of restructuring and change, with Will once again at the helm, steering us into a new era. Nick and Asanka, ever the pillars of our operation, rejoined the fold, and together we witnessed a period of remarkable growth.

Our ambition burgeoned, and soon we were not just a national name but an international one, connecting with audiences far beyond our humble Australian beginnings.

  4. Global Aspirations

    2020

In 2020, SCLSpec’s prowess in specification merged with the technological advancements of UK's NBS (partly owned by RIBA).

This union soon joined forces with Sweden's construction information provider, Byggfakta Group, but the anticipated outcomes did not align with the initial expectations.

  5. The Birth Of Earlymark

    2023

In 2023, the pioneering spirits of Will, Nick, and Asanka gave life to Earlymark, a new entity that carries forward our unwavering ethos: “Improving the natural and built environment with every project”.

Earlymark is not just the culmination of years of growth and experience but the vanguard of a service that continues to evolve, dedicated to transforming specification processes and enhancing the quality of construction.
